Biotic Factors
A biotic factor is a living thing that shapes an ecosystem. Some negative biotic factors would be scorpions and snakes. Although scorpions and snakes can be dangerous, the odds of being stung or bitten by one are very low. Animals and plants of the desert have learned to survive with each other. Abiotic Factors An a biotic factor is a non-living thing that shapes an ecosystem. A possible negative abiotic factor would be the temperature. Dry deserts are notorious for their extreme heat during the day. Animals living in hot deserts have had to adapt to the warm climate. Along with extreme heat, hot deserts also have a lack of moisture. Animals and plants have had to adapt to the dryness of the desert as well. |
Biodiversity
Believe it or not, the desert is a very diverse area. The desert is home to multiple species of birds, mammals, reptiles, arthropods, reptiles, and even some fish. Communities The desert is home to several different communities, all of which depend on each other for survival. Within the communities, there is competition and predation. The plant community is the basis for survival for other communities. The plants feed the herbivores, which feed the carnivores, which feed the microorganisms. |
Why visit?
The desert is a very unique place with many different types of plants and animals. Seeing the plants and animals in their natural habitat would be a refreshing change from seeing them in a zoo. |
